Update 5/5/2024- 11:00 am EDT -- The NWS COOP Weather Station in East Tawas reports that monthly precipitation through May 5 has been 69% (-.34") below average and the temperature has been 11% (+5.2°) above average; annual precipitation has been 19% (+1.84") above the long-term average and the annual temperature has been 17% (+5.1°F) above average.   Monthly precipitation for the Lake Huron-Michigan Basin through May 4 has been .44" which is 12% (.04") above average.  As of May 4, the average Lake Huron surface water temperature is 40.9°F compared to 39.3°F last year and an average of 39.3°F. As of 7:30 am EDT, the NDBC weather buoy located 43 NM east of Oscoda, MI reports that the air temperature is 46.6°F, the surface water temperature is 40.3°F, the wind is S at 11 mph and the wave height is 1.3 ft. As of 7:30 am EDT, the weather buoy located 22 miles Northeast of Alpena, MI reports an air temperature of 42.6°F, a surface water temperature of 39.6°F, the wind is WNW at 20 mph and the wave height is 2.3 ft.
* Lake Huron Water Levels- As of 5/3/24: 6" above the 4/3/24 level; 4" below the 5/3/23 level; 2" above the average for May; 32" below the 2020 average high for May and 32" above the 1964 average low for May. The level is projected to be 3" higher by 6/3/24.  The water level is currently 35.5 inches below it's July 2020 all time high water point.
