Spring Leaf Collection 2024
On April 10, 2024, a Nixle Alert was shared by the Department of Public Works informing the community that spring leaf collection services were being suspended due to equipment issues. These issues have been resolved. Spring leaf collection services resumed on April 25 and will continue through May 3. If you need additional service after May 3, please contact the Department of Public Works at 269-637-0737.
As a friendly reminder, the City of South Haven offers two types of service for leaf collection:
Loose Leaf Collection
Annually, in the spring and fall, the Department of Public Works provides leaf collection services via two vacuum-type trucks. The exact timing of this service is weather dependent, and these trucks follow established routes throughout the city limits. For this service, please place unbagged leaves in the parkway, at the edge of the curb or street, not in the road. Bagged leaves and other yard waste cannot be collected via this method.
Yard Waste Collection
Best Way Disposal provides yard waste collection service via a contract with the City of South Haven between April 1 and November 30. Residents interested in yard waste collection may contact Best Way Disposal at (269) 463-3232 to sign-up and have a 96-gallon yard waste cart delivered to them. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs, brush, and pruning from trees and bushes.
This service is available weekly on the same day as a property’s weekly garbage collection. Yard waste bins should be out by 6AM on your service day to ensure collection. Best Way Disposal will also collect up to four extra bags of yard waste once per month per residence. If a residence produces more yard waste than will fit in a 96-gallon bin on a regular basis, an extra yard waste cart may be rented from Best Way Disposal for a fee.
Beach Parking Stickers Available for Purchase
The City of South Haven Beach Parking Sticker Program is ready to kick off the 2024 season with a new design highlighting South Haven’s historic piers. In the far distance, Friends of Good Will, an iconic vessel can be seen sailing towards the South Pier Lighthouse.
The beach parking sticker is a 3-year sticker program (2024-2026). The multi-year beach parking stickers will be available for purchase at City Hall (Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Police Department’s Information Center (24/7) starting this week. Increases to the multi-year beach parking sticker price was recently approved by City Council; $100 purchased in 2024, $90 in 2025, and $80 in 2026. Beach parking revenue helps fund the robust beach cleaning schedule, beach enforcement attendant program, and capital improvement projects at municipal beaches.
